For Draven

This keepsake image was an emotional experience because it was the first stillborn I ever drew. Coming to terms with this reality for this friend in particular made me want to strictly follow her vision, but she gave me complete freedom. When I found out his name, I remembered this pattern I made for my college art class, but after searching through all my boxes and papers, I had to accept that the one sketchbook I needed was lost. In producing this illustration, I replicated the pattern to the best of my memory and the composition came out better than I remembered the original pattern. The black sky and solar flare was the last touch I needed to incorporate the next realm which was a theme in the movie Draven was named after, “The Crow.”
